The Great Aloha Run.

Last week I woke up before the sun had risen. Not to photograph the amazing sunrise or the light on the ocean. But to capture the looks of excitement, triumph, exhaustion and jubilation of the runners participating in the great aloha run. (And I was getting paid, always a plus when I have to wake up before dawn). Working with Marathon Foto, I used their cameras and flashes, their CF cards. So I had to lift these images to give you a peak.

Good times as always. Met a lot of cool people. If anyone wants to send me a copy of their pictures from the GAR that I took, it would be much appreciated. Especially if you're the 3 adorable toddlers I snapped in their running gear.

Special thanks goes out to Don .Had he not ran all those grueling miles, I wouldn't have images to share with you, and you would not be reading this blog right now. Thanks Don! Be sure to click the hyper link to check out his work! ;)

Until next time,
piece out.

Self-Portrait.

My latest assignment for my Art 112 class. Was to create a self portrait.
Guidelines were that it needed to be 380 pix wide and there needed to be a border and my name. Leave it to me to over think it.

Here's the top 3.

This is the one I turned in. Yes that's me taking a picture of me. Simple. But probably not as simple as the project should have been. It's actually conceptually close to my color wheel from my last project.

Simplest.

And my favorite. It's busy like me. cluttered. I like clutter. Chaotic. But I thought I might have been over doing it.

Until next time...

Ella Enchanted

This past week I had a session with "Ella". She volunteered to sit in a field with a dress on posing with her clarinet. I love a good sport. We spent a lot of the time goofing around, it reminded me, it shouldn't just be about getting awesome(beautiful, spectacular, etc) pictures; it should be fun!

I had her play her clarinet too.

Thanks for reading! Have an awesome day. Check back soon. Another portrait session next week! Working the Great Aloha Run on Monday. Stoked am I.

Photo Safari

Last Friday I met with Brian Ross from Photo Safari at the Sheraton in Waikiki. From there we (myself and two other Safarians, Christina and Shane) set off with Brian up to the Pali to learn some of the concepts that Photo Safari teaches to its clients. It's an awesome excursion for everyone from the novice photographer to the professional, who's looking to connect to the land and their camera.

I started shooting before I even met up with Brian in the hotel lobby. There's a small Koi pond just off to the side of the hotel.

After gaining weird looks from the nearby tourists because I was talking to the fish, telling them to pose. We set off to the Pali. It was a beautiful slightly overcast day with the winds barely blowing (which is very weird for the Pali lookout).

Brian tried to help us visualize certain essential elements of Photography. I love learning, especially with the click click of multiple shutters going off around me.
These were some of the shots I snagged

and this was my nature sculpture.

I know its no Andy Goldsworthy, but I give myself an E for Effort.

Shane looking for lines.

Brian being Brian.
He didn't really like this random shot, but I did :) It's candid without a goofy face.

We ended the day with a hike back up the Old Pali Highway talking about art, photography and life. I'm glad I had to chance to hang out with them, and hope to be able to work with them again in the future.

And so I end today's blog..... with chickens.

Formula Launch Party

So I tried to write a blog about me to start with, but it wasn't flowing right, so I'll just dive right in.

This past Saturday I was lucky enough to be the photographer at Formula's launch party. Formula is a new website run by the awesome Kirk and the fabulous Cherie. It's worth bookmarking, I was more then engrossed reading their blogs . The party was held at the Manifest in china town.

The space was great, I fell in love with the glass ceiling in the back and the somewhat random paintings throughout the place.

Formula held the 2010 Life is Mundane photography contest. This was the first place winner. It was my favorite piece by far.

Lauren Silva preformed all night with guitarest Nathan Kopp.

Students from the Paul Mitchell School created living works of art with their live mannequins. The models ( and I!) were all wearing the new spring line from Organik. I loved my shirt! I wish I had gotten to keep it, I'll just have to buy one like it when the line is released :)

The designs for the hair/make-up were inspired by the shirts the models were wearing!

Also in attendance were some wonderful people from Otto Cakes. Why were they wonderful? Because they carried in trays and trays of yummy goodness. They're known for their cheesecake. BUT the macadamia nut fudge was phenomenal.

They're on Smith St. Be sure to check them out.

Here are some other shots of the night.

It was an awesome night. I met some great people and I'm super glad I was able to take part. I used my new SB-600. Which is pretty much the best investment I've ever made, I don't know how I lived before flash.

That's all for today folk's. The rest of the pictures are up on my website. Until next time....
